The Current War (2017) is a visually stunning film with fantastic performances that will attract your attention. Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon are excellent as rivals Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, bringing lots of intensity and personality to their roles. Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla adds a quirky, underdog vibe that balances out the bigger egos. The movie is worth seeing, pairing industrial griminess with touches of loveliness, especially when it finally sees the start of electricity's miracles. The Chicago World's Fair is the showstopper, packed with bright lights and tension.

There is a sporadically uneven pace and slow places in parts, but tension among characters and stakes as high as the one being pursued due to the competition hold attention. The music enhances the mood, so the entire experience is more dramatic. If you like historical dramas with good acting and cool visuals, The Current War is worth seeing. It's not flawless, but it's fun and engaging, particularly if you enjoy tales of big ideas and larger-than-life personalities.
